Former Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar has provocatively suggested that Congress should suspend D.K. Shivakumar if he contradicts the party's principles. Speaking to reporters in Hubballi, Shettar commented on the internal disagreements within the Congress regarding Shivakumar's attendance at the Maha Kumbh Mela in Koyamattur, describing it as a natural occurrence and not a significant issue. He emphasized that if such actions are against the party's ideology, then suspension should be considered.
Shettar accused Congress of harboring animosity towards Hindus, stating that such sentiments would not serve the party well. He asserted that it is impossible to engage in politics without acknowledging the Hindu demographic, which he claims has been looked down upon, resulting in their degradation.
He also criticized statements made by Congress leaders Mallikarjun Kharge and Priyanka Kharge as being anti-Hindu. Shettar reaffirmed that this nation is fundamentally a Hindu country, grounded in Hindu traditions, and pointed out that even Communists have visited Hindu temples. He noted that many Congress members have attended events like the Kumbh Mela and insisted that religion should not be mixed with politics.
