Illegal slaughter houses in Shapur raises concerns

Is the city being overrun by illegal slaughterhouses? This question has arisen due to ongoing activities in the heart of the city, specifically near the ASP office. In Shapur, located in Ward Number 7, illegal slaughterhouses are reportedly operating without licenses. The area is plagued by a foul odor that has led to respiratory health issues, with animal blood and waste spilling into the drainage system. Residents are questioning whether this is due to neglect by the relevant authorities or sheer indifference.

In Shapur Agasi, within Vijayapura's Ward Number 7, illegal slaughterhouses function without adhering to legal regulations prohibiting animal slaughter in this area. These establishments are conducting the slaughter of animals, including cows, without permits, engaging in the trade of meat and hides. The blood and waste generated from these activities are improperly discharged into the drainage system, creating a disturbing sight of blood flowing through the drains.

According to Dr. Roopadevi Surapura, who is experiencing these issues, despite bringing these problems to the attention of the municipal authorities, no action has been taken, which she deems a tragedy.

The stench has permeated areas around Shapur Agasi, the Police Training School, and the Police Parade Ground, making it difficult for residents to breathe. People have resorted to wearing masks, while others are suffering from respiratory problems. Those afflicted with cancer and other respiratory diseases have reportedly vacated their homes in search of rentals elsewhere due to the unbearable conditions.

Our team visited the locations of these illegal slaughterhouses, where we witnessed many of them operating. Upon sighting our camera, several children fled the scene, and vehicles transporting meat quickly departed. As we arrived, some attempted to clean the slaughterhouses with water, revealing a gruesome scene of animal blood, severed limbs, and hides.
