The state government has approved a ₹93-crore project to install Light Emitting Diode (LED) lamps on all street electric poles within Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation limits.

The energy-efficient initiative will be implemented under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model. Following the tender process, Manjunatha Electrical Company of Tumakuru, which has previously executed similar projects in Tumakuru and Shivamogga, has been awarded the contract.

Over 75,000 LED street lights will be installed under the scheme. Officials from the municipal corporation said that the city currently incurs electricity bills of ₹22 crore annually, and the new system is expected to reduce that cost by 50%.

Executive Engineer SM Ganachari said the corporation will soon sign an agreement with the selected company after receiving the official order from the government. Installation work is expected to commence soon after.

Mayor Jyoti Patil confirmed the approval and said, “The project will brighten the twin cities with energy-efficient LED lights by Diwali.”
