BELAGAVI: Heavy rains continued to lash Belagavi district and adjoining Ghat areas of Maharashtra on Wednesday, leading to flooding of 16 bridges across the district. The persistent downpour caused severe disruption to traffic and resulted in tragic losses to livestock.

In Mudalagi’s Aralikkatti village, three buffaloes and a horse died after an electric wire snapped due to the combined effect of rain and strong winds. The animals belonged to local resident Shankar Teradala.

Water discharge from Rajapur Barrage into the Krishna River in Maharashtra recorded 73,042 cusecs, while 19,008 cusecs flowed into the Dudhganga River near Kallola. The Krishna River carried 92,050 cusecs of water downstream.

Several key bridges in Chikkodi and Nippani taluks, including Kallola-Yadoor, Malikawada-Dattawada, Karadaga-Bhoja, and Sidnal-Akkola, remain submerged, forcing suspension of traffic. Similarly, bridges over the Ghataprabha river in Hukkeri taluk, such as Yaranal and Sankeshwar, are flooded, disrupting connectivity. The Avaradi Bridge in Mudalagi taluk has also submerged, cutting off the Mudalagi-Sunadholi route.

Heavy rains in the Bhimgad forest of Khanapur taluk caused flooding over the Alatri Halla bridge and two bridges on the Devachihatti-Jambuti route, halting vehicular movement.

Authorities continue to monitor the situation as floodwaters rise, urging residents to stay alert and avoid travel on affected routes.
