Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao inaugurated a large-scale Mega Health Mela at Savadatti in the district. Speaking at the event, he emphasized that the initiative aims to provide medical services comparable to private hospitals.
Organized under the National Health Campaign, the event was a joint effort by the District Administration, Zilla Panchayat, District Health and Family Welfare Department, and Belagavi Institute of Medical Sciences (BIMS). The mela was held at the Savadatti Taluk Stadium, with participation from all government and private hospitals in the district. Several treatment centres were set up across the state, encouraging the public to avail themselves of the services. Over 300 government doctors participated in the event to provide medical care.
The Minister announced a ₹46 crore grant for a multi-speciality hospital in Savadatti. Additionally, plans are in place to establish modern hospitals in Ramdurg and Kittur taluks and develop a district hospital model in Gokak. He also revealed that a home health scheme would soon be launched to ensure the availability of medicines for every family and individual.
The event was attended by Public Works Minister Satish Jarkiholi, MLA Vishwas Vaidya, MLAs Babasaheb Patil and Mahantesh Koujalagi, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Rahul Shinde, Health and Family Welfare Commissioner K Shivakumar, District Health Officer Dr. Gadad, BIMS Director Dr. Ashok Kumar Shetty, Taluk Health Officer Dr. Sripad Sabanees, Tahsildar Mallikarjun Heggannavar, and Savadatti Panchayat President Chinnavva Huchannavar.
