Hubli-Dharwad Urban Development Authority (HDUDA) is considering constructing a new commercial hub, similar to Durgadbail, to decentralise commercial activities and address the increasing traffic congestion and related issues. The civic body has shortlisted Unkal, Mantur Road and Gokul Road for the new commercial hubs.
Durgadbail is a major marketing and commercial hub in the city, hosting numerous garment, cosmetic, grocery, fruit, vegetable, hardware, eatery and other shops. Currently, business activities are concentrated and centralised in one place, causing significant traffic issues. To address these problems and ease   increasing traffic at this busy centre, we are planning to establish a new commercial hub comparable to Durgadbail, Shakir Sanadi, President of HDUDA told.
We have frequented Durgadbail to study the traffic issues there, observing the flow of visitors. As part of our proposed plan to create a new commercial hub, we have conducted surveys and finalised three locations,  Unkal, Mantur Road and Gokul Road. We had an initial discussion with local leaders and other stakeholders concerned, including corporation authorities. We will meet again with all stakeholders to finalise the project and send   proposal to   state government to commence work on creating new commercial hubs in the city,  Sanadi said.

We are also planning to address traffic problems   by having discussions with the police department and other departments to start parking facilities on both or on one side side of the roads in commercial streets connecting to Durgadbail.
