Grand Welcome for Retired Soldier in Gadag
GADAG
Sharanappa Nemati, a soldier who retired after 22 years of distinguished service in the Indian Army, received a grand and emotional welcome in Madalageri village on Thursday morning. Villagers from Madalageri and nearby areas gathered in large numbers to honour their local hero.
Nemati was paraded through the main streets on a decorated bullock cart, with people showering flowers on him. A bike rally led by local youth and former soldiers added to the celebratory atmosphere. As the procession reached the village bus stop, women lit traditional lamps and performed aarti to welcome him. In response, Nemati saluted the villagers and paid his respects to his parents.
PLD Bank Vice-President Yacharagouda Govindagoudar praised the villagers’ gesture, calling it unforgettable and inspirational. “This kind of honour encourages soldiers who dedicate their lives to protecting the nation. Their sacrifices should be an inspiration to today’s youth,” he said.
He added that soldiers, who endure extreme weather and danger at the borders, deserve public admiration and continued connection even after retirement.
Nemati expressed deep gratitude for the honour. “Serving in the Army is a privilege. Though I’m happy to return to my family, I feel sorrow at leaving my duties behind,” he said. He encouraged the younger generation to join the Army and serve the nation, adding, “If the country ever needs me again, I’m ready to fight.”
