Zubiya Khanum, a student of Adarsha Vidyalaya in Malavalli Taluk, emerged as the top scorer among all govt school students in SSLC examination in district. With a score of 623 out of 625, she also secured the third rank overall in the state.
What makes Khanum's achievement even more remarkable is that she accomplished it without attending any private tuition. Her father, Imithiyaz Khan, who studied up to the fourth grade, works as a tailor and is the sole breadwinner of the family. Khanum is one of four children and credits her success to the guidance of her schoolteachers and her own dedication.
Regardless of the school we attend, if we are focused and dedicated, we can achieve anything, Khanum said. Government schools have qualified teachers. Their support, motivation and commitment helped me perform well. Good coaching is available in govt schools, it just requires students to concentrate and stay committed.
Khanum dreams of becoming an engineer and wishes to pursue a career in data science or information technology.
However, financial challenges are now weighing on her decision about which college to attend. My father does everything he can to support us, but it's difficult. We have to think twice before choosing a college, she said.
