Government decentralises cancer care
Mysuru
The State government has started an initiative to decentralise cancer care through the establishment of Day Care Chemotherapy Centres at district hospitals, following a Hub and Spoke Model.
The proposed initiative to establish Day Care Chemotherapy Centres at district hospitals aims to decentralise cancer care and reduce patient burden on tertiary centres. This model aims to provide localised chemotherapy services, enhanced access, reduced travel burden, and cost-effective care.
The equipment list has been certified by experts at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru and Spoke hospitals to set up the Day Care Chemotherapy Centre as per the above specifications.
Any other necessary equipment required for the functioning of the Day Care Chemotherapy Centre shall be made available by the concerned district surgeon.
The Hub facility shall certify that the day care chemotherapy centre established at the spoke is compliant with these requirements and shall certify the same.
Day Care Chemotherapy Centres will initially focus on palliative chemotherapy and chemotherapy for solid tumors that includes Oral, Breast, Cervical, Lung, Colon and Prostate cancers at this stage.
Standardised protocols have been developed by experts at Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bengaluru, for uniform implementation
This project aligns with Karnataka's healthcare goals to provide accessible, high-quality care to cancer patients in their communities.
