Four special teams probing shetty murder, arrests soon: HM

State Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara said four teams have been formed to probe the murder of Suhas Shetty in Bajpe. Addressing the media on Friday, he noted that while Mangaluru was stabilizing, recent incidents in Dakshina Kannada are concerning. He warned that the culprits will not be spared. Additional police have been deployed, and ADGP R Hitendra is overseeing the investigation. Parameshwara urged the public to remain calm and assured that strong action will follow based on the preliminary report.

Suhas Shetty (30), a key accused in the 2022 murder of Mohammed Fazil, was brutally hacked to death in Bajpe on Thursday night. He had five criminal cases against him, including two for murder, and was facing trial in two at the time of his death. Police said six unidentified men attacked Suhas with sharp weapons after intercepting his car. He succumbed to his injuries in hospital.

In response, Mangaluru Police have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the BNSS from May 2 to May 6, banning gatherings, protests, and inflammatory content. Security has been intensified with 22 KSRP platoons and over 1,000 police personnel deployed. ADGP R Hitendra assured that action is underway and arrests will follow soon.

Hindu groups condemned the killing, calling for a voluntary bandh in Dakshina Kannada on May 2. Thousands paid their respects to Suhas at BC Road in Bantwal, where his body was kept for public viewing. Shops remained shut and buses were off the roads as a mark of protest. Volunteers arranged transport for students and the elderly. A case has been registered, and investigations are ongoing.
