Five dead, 11 seriously injured in road accident

Five people died on the spot and 11 were seriously injured when a minibus collided with a lorry parked on the road in Sonna village of Jewargi taluk in the early hours of Saturday.
The deceased have been identified as Maulan Gaddakeri (52), Wajid (2), Maiboob B Usman Saab (53), Priyanka's father Manjunath (13), and Maiboob's father Usman Saab (29), all natives of Bagalkot.
Eleven people were seriously injured in the horrific accident and have been rushed to the district hospital. The remaining passengers have been admitted to Jewargi Taluka Hospital and are undergoing treatment.
A total of 31 people, including two neighbors and 29 members of the same family, were traveling from Bagalkot to Bandenawaz Dargah in Kalaburagi in a minibus that had broken down. On the way, the minibus collided with a lorry that had a puncture near Sonna village, causing the accident. A case has been registered at Nelogi police station.
Superintendent of Police Adoor Srinivasalu visited the spot and inspected it. Similarly, Jewargi MLA and KKRDB President Ajay Dharam Singh, visited the taluka hospital and listened to the condition of the injured and reassured the families.
It is unfortunate that this incident took place within half an hour of the lorry being stopped due to a puncture. Necessary steps have been taken for the treatment of the injured. The bodies will be handed over to the families after the medical and legal procedures are completed, said MLA Ajay Singh.
Nelogi Police Sub Inspector Chidanand Souda said that four people died on the spot and one succumbed to injuries while being taken to the hospital.
