A survey was conducted with Police security for the construction of a commercial port proposed to be built in the Tonka area of the Kasarakoda seashore in Honnavar taluk. Deputy Commissioner K Lakshmi Priya has issued another order extending the prohibitory order imposed around the area until 10 pm on February 26.

On Tuesday, fishermen and women went into the sea and immersed themselves in chest-deep water to protest. As the waves of the sea began to crash violently, some women lost their balance and drowned. Two of them became seriously ill and were rescued by the police and locals on the shore, brought to the shore, provided first aid and admitted to the hospital.

The company had tried to carry out survey and road construction work under police protection three times in the past. Despite the protests of the fishermen, the materials for the work were transported once. Another time, the survey was started but could not be carried out. In the meantime, there was a scuffle between the police and the activists, in which some fishermen and the police were injured. Complaints and counter-complaints were filed in this regard, and many activists were imprisoned. Later, several cases were heard in the Honnavar court. Later, although the activists won some cases in the higher court, they did not win completely. Therefore, the contract work progressed slowly and came to a standstill.
