Fire breaks out in a building housing 140 students of a medical college

A fire broke out in a building at Deralakatte Junction, where students of a private institution were staying, due to an electrical short circuit. 140 students from the building have been evacuated. Locals have been successful in extinguishing the fire.
A fire broke out in the switchboard on the ground floor of the building on Monday. As the fire started spreading, locals rushed to the spot and started extinguishing the fire with the help of fire extinguishing equipment from the petrol pump opposite. 140 students who were on the top floor of the building were immediately brought out safely.
The locals expressed their opposition due to the late arrival of the fire brigade at the scene. The locals were able to douse the fire by then and shifted all the students to other hostels of the educational institution. An electrical short circuit occurred on the ground floor of the five-storey building of Venkat Residency, belonging to Venugopal Shetty. All the electrical boards below were completely burnt.
Locals carried out an operation and extinguished the fire. 140 students were evacuated by a private organization. No casualties were reported, said Tahsildar Puttaraju. Firefighters and Konaje police were present at the scene of the incident.
