Farmers, teachers, soldiers are pillars of nation: CM
Belagavi
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah called farmers, teachers, and soldiers the true protectors of the nation, highlighting their vital roles in building a strong and self-reliant India.
Speaking at an event where agricultural equipment worth ₹400 crore was distributed to farmers under government subsidy, the CM stressed the importance of supporting agriculture amid growing urban migration. “Due to a shortage of farm labourers, farmers now depend more on machines. That’s why we’re giving agricultural machinery at 40% subsidy, and 50% for SC farmers,” he said.
He noted that more farmers are taking up dryland farming and highlighted the success of the Krishibhagya scheme. “We constructed over 25,000 agricultural wells last year. This year, we’ll do even more. Experts say these wells are highly beneficial,” he added.
He also stated that Karnataka is now self-sufficient in food production. “After we formed the government, we began distributing 10 kg rice under the Annabhagya scheme, thanks to our food-producing farmers.”
On irrigation, Siddaramaiah said the state government is investing ₹23,000 crore in various projects. However, he criticised the central government for not releasing funds or giving clearances. “The Bhadra Upper Project has received no central support. Mahadayi and Mekedatu are still pending approval. If the Centre consents, we’ll implement them tomorrow itself,” he affirmed.
The CM reiterated his government’s commitment to integrated agriculture and rural progress while urging the Centre to cooperate in Karnataka’s water and farming needs.
