Farmers in a limbo with RTC record issues due to missing crop details
Farmers in Shirsi taluk are facing significant difficulties due to the absence of crop details in the Record of Rights, Tenancy and Crops (RTC) documentation related to their land. Frustration is growing among farmers as officials attribute the ongoing issues to technical errors in the software.
Despite a rapid crop survey conducted in November, many farmers' crop details have not been accurately reflected in their RTC records to this day, leading to feelings of being cheated.
The various aspects, including the crop column in the computer-generated RTC records, are not reflected correctly. This has created a situation where farmers have to apply multiple times to correct changes in RTC every year, often leading to loss of thousands of rupees while commuting to offices, expressed farmer Eeshwara Poojari. He raised concerns about the possibility of intentional errors for profit.
He further highlighted that submitting crop records annually is essential for obtaining crop-based loans, posing an additional challenge for farmers. The crop column in the RTC is left blank. This issue continues year after year. Loans are issued based on areca nut crops, which are crucial for farmers. Given the existing errors, securing loans is becoming difficult, shared the sentiment of many farmers.
As the situation develops, farmers are calling for prompt action and accountability from the authorities to rectify these discrepancies and safeguard their interests.
A revenue department official commented, the crop survey report was accurate when sent after review by the local administration. However, there is a possibility of errors occurring when it is recorded at the state level.
