District-Level Disaster Management Meeting Held in Belagavi
Belagavi
In response to rising water levels and heavy rainfall in Maharashtra and Belagavi district, Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Roshan chaired a District Disaster Management Authority meeting on Wednesday, urging officials to remain on high alert.
Officials in vulnerable taluks such as Belagavi, Hukkeri, Khanapur, Nipani, and Chikkodi were directed to closely monitor reservoir levels and ensure early relocation of people and livestock to well-equipped relief centres. Specific instructions were issued to Gokak Tahsildar to assess low-lying areas near the Markandeya reservoir.
The DC emphasized installing barricades at submerged bridges, citing high water inflow from Maharashtra’s Koyna dam into the Krishna River. A nodal officer will track reservoir levels at Koyna, Hidkal, and Markandeya. Rescue personnel will be deployed with boats, life jackets, and lighting.
Tahsildars were asked to submit a list of emergency equipment and reports on relief centre facilities within three days. Urban local bodies must clear drains and remove hazardous trees, while Zilla Panchayat officials have been tasked with bund repairs and inspecting vulnerable homes.
City Police Commissioner Bhushan Borase flagged drainage overflow issues near Gandhi Nagar and Sambra Road. ZP CEO Rahul Shinde directed inspections of school and Anganwadi buildings, and mandated updates on damaged bridges and canals.
A flood control room is operational, with strict advisories to counter fake news. IAS officer Abhinav J. instructed continuous updates from field officers.
Senior officials and officers across taluks joined the meeting, in-person and via video conference.
