District in-charge Minister Satish Jarkiholi issued a stern warning to government officials on Monday, stating that those failing to fulfil their responsibilities would be deemed unnecessary. “We cannot keep answering for the officers’ failures. If they don’t act responsibly, we won’t need them,” he said at a press conference.
Citing the deteriorating law and order in the city, Jarkiholi defended the recent transfer of Police Commissioner Yada Martin Marbanyang. “This is a clear warning to all departments. If officers take timely precautionary steps, many incidents can be prevented,” he stressed.
Addressing concerns about delayed payments under the Grihalakshmi scheme, he said, “Sometimes, we deposit funds twice a month. People shouldn’t expect it on the 30th every time. The government is committed to the guarantee schemes and has allocated funds accordingly.”
On the issue of water from Hidkal Dam being diverted to industries in Hubballi-Dharwad, Jarkiholi said it was done without his knowledge. “We had stopped the work earlier. Now the Water Resources Department is pushing it forward,” he noted.
He also directed the District Collector to investigate ongoing projects under the Karnataka Slum Development Board, citing concerns raised about their execution.
MLA Asif Seth was present during the press meet.
"We cooperate with officials on development matters, but neither the Chief Minister nor we can claim everything is done. Officers who neglect development and fail in maintaining law and order will not be allowed to serve in the district," said Minister Satish Jarkiholi.
