District Drinking Water Projects Approved: S. Madhu Bangarappa

In a major development, drinking water and related infrastructure projects worth ₹307.80 crore have received executive approval following the state cabinet meeting held at Nandi Hills on July 2, said S. Madhu Bangarappa, Minister for School Education and Literacy and Shivamogga District In-charge.

Speaking at a press conference in the city, he expressed satisfaction over the approval of the Dandavati Dam Modification Project in Soraba taluk, which he emphasized would be executed without submerging any agricultural land or houses.

Among the key sanctioned projects are a ₹38.50 crore barrage on the Dandavati River near Yadagoppa village to fill 15 lakes; a ₹54.70 crore barrage across the Dandavati and Varada rivers; and a ₹75.60 crore barrage across the Varada River near Gudavi village to lift 0.1017 TMC of water and fill 32 lakes.

Additionally, a ₹54 crore project to lift 0.19 TMC of water from the Bhadra River near Gonibeedu village in Bhadravati taluk, aimed at filling two lakes, has also been approved.

Bangarappa reaffirmed the government's commitment to supporting farmers by prioritizing irrigation and water supply projects that would promote agricultural activities in the region.

Present at the press conference were S. Ravikumar, Chairman of the State Bhovi Development Corporation; Chandrabhupal, Chairman of the District Level Guarantee Scheme Implementation Authority; and former MLCs Ayanur Manjunath and R. Prasannakumar, among others.

The state government is working to ensure justice for Sharavati victims. A meeting was recently held with the Advocate General, and over 1,800 documents have been submitted. Complete justice will be delivered to the victims in a phased manner, assured District Minister S. Madhu Bangarappa.
