DC Stresses on Boosting Industrial Growth, Exports in Udupi
UDUPI – Deputy Commissioner T.K. Swaroopa has urged officials to take proactive measures to promote industrial growth and increase employment opportunities in Udupi district. Emphasizing the need for coordinated efforts, she chaired multiple key meetings at the Rajathadri, including those of the District-Level Kaigarika Spandana Samithi, Single Window Clearance Committee, Export Promotion Committee, and PMEGP Monitoring Committee.
To expedite industrial expansion, the DC instructed authorities to fast-track land acquisition for industrial zones. Expressing concern over declining trade, she noted that the district recorded ₹2,496.2 crore in business in 2023–24, but only ₹1,930.3 crore so far this year. Fish exports, a major revenue source, also fell from 1,07,989.5 metric tonnes to 76,531 metric tonnes. She urged the fisheries department to support exporters in boosting volume for the remainder of the fiscal year.
Addressing infrastructure delays, the DC directed officials to prioritise land acquisition for the Belapu Industrial Area road expansion. She also flagged environmental and regulatory violations in the Shivalli Industrial Area, where plots had been leased out without proper approval. The Ready-Mix Concrete (RMC) units there were reportedly causing air and water pollution.
The DC instructed the Pollution Control Board to revoke environmental clearances of non-compliant units and ensure stricter enforcement going forward. She stressed that all departments must work in tandem to ensure holistic development of the district through timely implementation of government schemes.

The DC warned that undeveloped plots would be reclaimed and reallocated. Citing the Dr Sarojini Mahishi Committee Report, she emphasized giving employment preference to local Kannadigas, especially for Class-D jobs, regardless of qualifications. She urged industries to boost recruitment by raising awareness through advertisements and outreach initiatives.
