BAGALKOT:

In a proactive measure to ensure flood preparedness, a series of mock demonstrations were conducted at three locations across the district to educate the public on precautionary steps and emergency response during flood situations.

The drills included simulated rescues of people stranded in rivers, first aid response, and transporting victims to hospitals. A dramatic demonstration showed firefighters rescuing a person being swept away by floodwaters using a boat. Officials also visited a care center set up at Siddarameshwara Government Primary School and reviewed the available facilities.

Deputy Commissioner Sangappa stated that the district administration is fully equipped to handle potential flood emergencies. “All departments, including the police and fire brigade, are on standby. However, we urge citizens to avoid entering water bodies during floods,” he cautioned.

District Superintendent of Police Amarnath Reddy said that mock rescue operations were being held near the Krishna, Ghataprabha, and Malaprabha rivers — the most flood-prone areas in the district. He emphasized the importance of identifying submerged bridges and creating awareness among locals to prevent accidents.

The exercise was attended by several senior officials, including Mudhol Municipal Council President Sunanda Teli, Jamkhandi Sub-Divisional Officer Shweta Bidikara, Tahsildar Mahadeva Sanamuri, Jamkhandi DySP Muhammad Roshan, Taluk Panchayat Executive Officer Umesh Sidnala, and Municipal Commissioner Gopal Kase.
