DC appeals to end child marriage calls for a concerted effort

Wherever a child marriage case occurs in the district, it should be considered as a hotspot and necessary action should be taken. Deputy Commissioner Gurudatta Hegde instructed the officials to take effective measures involving the community and emphasize on permanent solutions.
He spoke while presiding over a progress review meeting of various programs of the Women and Child Development Department on Tuesday at the District Administration Office auditorium.
Every child marriage case should be considered as a hotspot and activities should be taken. Action should be taken that provides permanent solutions. Awareness should be created in the community and among parents by taking the help of local leaders, religious leaders, public representatives and influential people. Leaders and motivators who worked hard to prevent child marriage should be respected. ASHA and Anganwadi workers working locally should be utilized and respected.
He directed that activities to permanently prevent child marriage should be carried out in communities with the coordination of various departments.
And from primary schools to educational institutions, every day, from teaching the oath on POCSO and child marriage awareness, to conducting workshops under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao program, programs that will yield good results and provide permanent solutions should be carried out. District Child Protection Officer Manjunath, Deputy Director of the Women and Child Welfare Department Krishnappa, Women and Child Development Officer Shashirekha also spoke.
Zilla Panchayat Deputy Secretary Sujatha, District Health Officer Dr Nataraj, Reporting Officer Dr Santosh Kumar, Chairman of Child Welfare Committee Tajuddin Khan, CDPOs of the taluks and other officials participated in the meeting.
The Deputy Commissioner said that the district administration will also honour the motivators and leaders who have cooperated in preventing child marriage.
