CUK Orders Probe Into Alleged Forced Hijab

The Central University of Karnataka (CUK) has initiated an inquiry into allegations that Assistant Professor Abdul Majid forced second-year BA students to wear hijabs during an academic visit to a mosque.
CUK Registrar R R Biradar confirmed receiving a complaint on July 26 from A.Santosh, general secretary of the Legal Rights Protection Forum, Hyderabad. The complaint alleged that the professor, from the Department of History and Archaeology, compelled students to wear hijabs to enter the mosque.
Biradar stated that an inquiry committee would be constituted in accordance with university norms, and appropriate action would be taken if the professor is found guilty.
The incident comes amid ongoing debates over the hijab in Karnataka. Earlier this month, the Jammu and Kashmir Students Association (JKSA) sought CM Siddaramaiah’s intervention after Kashmiri students in a Bengaluru nursing college were reportedly barred from classes for wearing hijabs or burqas.
The association alleged discrimination, claiming students were denied access to classrooms and practicals, despite their attire being rooted in personal and religious beliefs.
