Crocodile Seen On The Banks Of River, Increased Anxiety Among Villagers
HAVERI
The human-animal conflict continues. The animals that should have been in the forest have started attacking the land because of man's greed. Elephant-man conflict continues in villages and towns. In some places the conflict between various animals and humans, including leopards, continues. Many animals are dying every day in this conflict. In some other places, innocent people have been killed.
Human-animal conflict is currently a burning issue and while Governments have taken several steps to resolve the conflict, the conflict has not abated. Villagers in and around Badasangapura in Rattihalli taluk of the district have started being bitten by crocodiles. A huge crocodile was found in the Kumadvati river near the village, leaving people sleepless.
The villagers of many villages including Badasangapura, Kudupali, Yadagoda, Hiremadapura and Sannagubbi are worried because of this crocodile. It's been several days since the crocodile appeared. The people here alleged that the forest department did nothing but put up a warning board. The crocodile is found three kilometres from Bandara in Badasangapura. The farmers on the banks of these three kilometres of the river are afraid to come to the farm. There is very little electricity to irrigate the land. The farmers are not going to the fields because they are afraid to go down to the river.
The farmers are also afraid to drink water to wash the bodies of the cattle. Girls are not coming to the river to draw clothes. Initially, the forest department staff had promised a lot about catching the crocodile. He said he would call in skilled experts from Dandeli. But even after several days of the sighting of the crocodile, no experts have come, said Shankaragowda Shiragambi, President of the Taluk Raitha Sangha.
