Coordination between Karnataka and Maharashtra needed

In order to maintain harmony between the people of Karnataka and Maharastra in border areas, there is an urgent need to constitute a Karnataka-Maharshtra Coordination Committee, said writer Prof Gopal Mahamuni.
Speaking after receiving the Anandakanda Award instituted by Prof Pandit Awalikar Endowment at a function organised by Karnataka Vidyavardhaka Sangha (KVVS) to mark the 124th birth anniversary of writer Betageri Krishnasharma at KE Board's degree college, he said there is Maharastra Ekikarana Samiti is fighting for supremacy of Marathi in Belagavi and Kannada Kriya Samiti to protect the interest of Kannada language. "In order to ensure peace and harmony, there is need for a Karnataka-Maharashtra Samanvaya Samiti, he said.
Stating that both Marathi and Kannada languages and culture have influenced each other, he said there is need for coordination between the two.
President of Betageri Krishnasharma Trust Vinaya Vakkund presented the award and explained the Trust's plans to encourage the study of Betageri's works. She said though there are different languages as means of communication, the sentiments of all the languages were same and hence it is futile to fight in the name of languages. KVVS Secretary Shankar Halagatti also spoke.
Former KAS officer Vijayakumar Torgal urged the students to read Betageri Krishnasharma's books to know the importance of observing festivals and rituals in rural parts of the state.
Vice-Principal of KE Board's degree college Vidya Kulkarni presided over the function and explained the rich contributions of Betageri Krishnasharma as a versatile writer to different forms of literature.
Shankar Kumbi welcomed the gathering. Veeranna Waddin proposed a vote of thanks. Jinadatt Hadagali compered. Members of Anandakanda Geleyara Balaga led by Raju Kulkarni enthralled the audience by rendering melodiously the compositions of Krishnasharma.
