The Karnataka government has initiated a program called "Rangotsava" in schools to introduce various cultural traditions of the state. However, the inclusion of "Daivaradhane," a traditional coastal ritual, in the entertainment lineup has sparked controversy. Practitioners of Daivaradhane have expressed their discontent, stating that the deities should not be presented as entertainment on stage.

With a history spanning thousands of years, Daivaradhane is a deeply respected religious practice in Tulu Nadu. Following the success of the film "Kantara," which features Rishab Shetty, there has been an uptick in street performances showcasing deities in costumes, prompting concerns among devotees. They are now demanding government intervention to address these issues, arguing that the current administration is disrespecting their traditions. The state’s education department has been criticized for this oversight. Their aim is to heighten children's awareness of the cultural diversity in the state through schools, but the inclusion of Daivaradhane alongside traditional performances like Kamsale, Veeragase, Dollu Kunitha, and Bombeyata has triggered outrage among deity worshippers.

Devotees have also voiced their anger against Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa. They argue that categorizing Daivaradhane as a form of entertainment undermines the beliefs of Tulu Nadu devotees. They are insisting that the circular including these performances be revoked. Mangaluru South MLA Vedavyas Kamath has written to the education minister and the principal secretary of the education department regarding this issue.

Daivaradhane is a sacred religious expression in Tulu Nadu, and the practitioners insist that it should not be treated as entertainment. They urge for immediate withdrawal of its inclusion in the program.
