Today, the Constitution of Ambedkar is being attacked by those who rejected Buddha Basavanna, who advocated equality. This is the time for us to wake up, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda called for.
He spoke while participating in the Ambedkar Festival symposium organised on Saturday.
The idea that these people are above and below by birth, this person is untouchable, they should not be touched and should be kept out of the village has been around for a long time. The first to raise their voice against this humanism was Buddha, the one who continued it was Basavanna, and the one who made it the aspiration of the Constitution was Ambedkar. The one who advocated it was Kuvempu. There has been a rivalry between these opposing arguments ever since, said Minister Krishna Byre Gowda.
Buddha-Basava-Ambedkar-Phule all had same aspiration. Buddha raised his voice against the traditionalists.
He preached the equality of all, starting with Buddha, Basavanna, Phule, Ambedkar to Vishwamanava Kuvempu, everyone followed and advocated this humanism. While Basavanna-Kanakadasa conveyed this philosophy of Buddha to the common people in the language of philosophy,
it was Ambedkar who added modern language to it and made it into a constitution, he said.
There is only one race, the human race. The basic principle of our Constitution is the hope of equality, where no one is above or below by birth. The inspiration for this is Basavanna and Buddha.
The seed they sowed has grown into a tree today and we have got it in the form of the Constitution. From Basava Sahitya, Dasa Sahitya to Kuvempu, everyone has advocated this. All of them are humanists. We should follow the true leaders, Minister Krishna Byre Gowda said.
