The Government First Grade College near Gandhipur turned into a colourful celebration ground as it hosted a lively folk festival. The entire campus took on a traditional look, with decorations, music, and costumes reflecting the rich folk heritage.
The event began with a Saraswati Puja on the college premises. Students welcomed guests in folk attire, holding decorative kumbhas. A traditional chakkadi was brought to the campus and adorned with colourful paper decorations. Beautiful rangolis drawn by both boys and girls added charm to the entrance, while folk dances and lively processions filled the campus with energy.
Boys wore white panches and draped white towels on their shoulders. Girls dressed in traditional sarees like molakalmura, shigli, and ilakal, complemented by jewellery such as anklets, dabus, morabalasar, neem bead necklaces, and nattu. Their look was completed with kumkum on the forehead. A group of students dressed as lambanis became the centre of attraction.
Teachers also joined in the celebrations by donning traditional outfits. Male lecturers wore panche dhotara with shawls, while female staff looked graceful in sarees and topis. The atmosphere was festive and rooted in rural culture, with groups of girls clicking selfies in traditional outfits.
Adding to the experience, several folk food stalls were set up. These included a desi giramit stall, refreshing drinks like buttermilk, sharbat, and panaka, as well as a fresh fruit salad stall to beat the summer heat.
