CM welcomed Centre’s decision of caste census

In a significant step toward ensuring social justice and equitable development, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed his strong support for the Central Government's decision to conduct a caste census alongside the national population census.
“I wholeheartedly welcome the decision taken by the Central Government to conduct a caste census alongside the national population census,” said CM Siddaramaiah during a press conference at his Kavari residence. He described the move as a crucial milestone in promoting social equality for all communities. The Chief Minister also extended his congratulations to Parliamentarian Rahul Gandhi for his relentless advocacy on this matter, crediting him for playing a key role in bringing this issue to the forefront.
Siddaramaiah further added, “In my opinion, Rahul Gandhi deserves more praise than Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his consistent demand and advocacy over the past two and a half years for the implementation of caste-based enumeration.”
The Chief Minister emphasized that the caste census would provide valuable data to support proportional reservation quotas, in line with the party's manifesto. However, he noted that the decision was possibly expedited due to the approaching Bihar elections. He urged the Central Government to expand the scope of the survey, including economic, social, and educational parameters, for a more comprehensive understanding of community conditions.
Siddaramaiah recalled that a similar caste-based survey had been conducted in 2015 at a cost of ₹192 crore and highlighted that the government would review the findings and consult various ministers before making any decisions.
