The Bhagwan Buddha Jayanti will be celebrated with great reverence on May 12, featuring a procession that will start with a floral tribute at Dr. BR Ambedkar's statue near Town Hall and conclude at Kalamandira. At 11:30 a.m., the main celebration will take place at Kalamandira, announced Additional Deputy Commissioner Dr. P. Shivaraju.
Presiding over a preparatory meeting at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, Dr. Shivaraju emphasized that Bhagwan Buddha is globally recognized for his teachings on peace, non-violence, and humanity. He described Buddha as a beacon of humanity whose sacrifices and teachings inspire many to lead purposeful, belief-driven lives. "Incorporating Buddha’s wisdom into our daily lives brings a unique energy and awareness," he said, highlighting Buddha's ability to transcend caste and religion.
Dr. Shivaraju expressed his happiness that the government has officially recognized Buddha Jayanti, a celebration that has enlightened the world, and urged all citizens—regardless of community or faith—to join in the observance.
The event will adhere to government protocols, with cultural performances, including devotional songs, arranged by cultural teams. Dr. MD Sudarshan, Assistant Director of the Department of Kannada and Culture, confirmed the arrangements.
The meeting was attended by district and taluk-level officials, leaders such as Aravind Sharma, Buddhist followers, and prominent members of the Buddha community.
