Bomb threats lead to evacuations in districts
CHAMARAJANAGAR/RAICHUR
Authorities in Chamarajanagar and Raichur districts are on high alert following bomb threats targeting district administration offices.
At 2:40 am today, an email arrived warning of a bomb explosion at the Chamarajanagar District Administration building. The message, citing bomb blast incidents in Tamil Nadu and mentioning the names of DMK leaders, claimed bombs were hidden in pipes and would explode at 3 pm on Friday. Upon receiving the threat, Deputy Commissioner Shilpanag and Superintendent of Police Dr. BT Kavita took immediate action.
To ensure safety, all office staff was evacuated, and public access to the building was restricted. The Bomb Detection Squad, along with a dog squad, began a thorough search of the premises. Meanwhile, District officials, including Shilpanag, Additional Deputy Commissioner Geeta Hudeda, and Zilla Panchayat CEO Mona Roth, were seen carrying out their duties outdoors, under a tree, attracting attention.
Shilpanag reassured the public, saying, “There is no need to panic after receiving a bomb threat message to blow up the district administration building.” She confirmed that a complaint had been filed with the CEN police station, and state officials were informed.
A similar bomb threat was also received by Raichur district at 6:30 am, targeting the new District Collector's office. The police are investigating both incidents and carrying out searches in the affected areas.
