BAGALKOT

The blueprint for the construction of a comprehensive market planned to be built in the third unit of Navanagar has been prepared, with an estimated cost of Rs 380 crore.

In the first unit of Navanagar, land has been reserved for the market in different places. Most of the land in the markets is lying vacant. Business is not going well in the market area. The traders have demanded that a market should be built on 200 acres so that all the markets are in one place like in the old town. In that regard, land has been reserved and an estimate has also been prepared.

9.27 acres for the daily necessities market, 10.72 acres for the market for puja, rice, chillies and other items, 11.38 acres for hotels, bakeries, juice shops, bida stalls, 10.41 acres for hardware, plywood, electrical, stationery, fancy and other shops.

15.74 acres have been allocated for clothing, gold and silver jewelry, footwear, and wine shops, 9.69 acres for parking, bus stop, and 23.35 acres for open space and gardens.

It is proposed to implement a rainwater harvesting system in the new market. Many facilities including overhead water tanks, drainage, solid waste management, public toilets, and footpaths will be provided.

Correspondence has already been exchanged between the government and the Bagalkot Town Development Authority regarding reserving 200 acres of land for the market. Now, another step forward has been taken by preparing the blueprint and estimate for the market.

The Town Authority does not have the Rs 380 crore required for the integrated market. A proposal needs to be submitted to the government for financial assistance. A company was given the task of preparing an estimate by the BTDA. The company has provided an estimate of the cost of constructing the market along with a blueprint. It has been decided to submit a proposal for the construction of the market from the state government, said HY Meti, MLA.
