A mass blood donation camp was organised at Kolthamajalu, Bantwal, in memory of Abdul Rahiman, a pickup driver and dedicated social worker who was recently slain. The event was a collaborative effort by Blood Donors Mangaluru, GHM Foundation Mullarapatna, Muhiuddin Juma Masjid Kolthamajalu, and the SKSSF Kolthamajalu branch, held at the Madrasa Auditorium.

Siddiq Manjeshwar, President of Blood Donors Mangaluru, explained that the camp was arranged to honour Rahiman’s active role in blood donation and social service in his village. “Abdul Rahiman was committed to helping people across all communities without any discrimination. His charitable efforts inspired us to organise this camp in his memory,” he said.

Nearly 200 donors had registered in advance to participate, and the camp was supported by Yenepoya Hospital. Siddiq highlighted the critical demand for blood in district hospitals and medical colleges, emphasizing that regular blood donation camps are essential to meet these needs. “Most donors are repeat donors who have to wait for three months between donations,” he added.

Blood Donors Mangaluru has organised over 500 blood donation camps in the past 13 years, both locally and abroad, including in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and Bahrain. Typically, these camps collect about 100 units of blood per session, with some events attracting up to 400 donors.

The tribute camp to Abdul Rahiman not only commemorated his life but also strengthened community efforts to address the ongoing need for blood donations in the region.
