A major political storm erupted in Karnataka after Leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council, Chaluvadi Narayanaswamy, made a controversial statement likening Minister Priyank Kharge to a dog. This sparked outrage among Congress supporters and Kharge’s followers, who surrounded Narayanaswamy near the Chittapur guest house, threw paint at his car, and raised slogans in protest.

Condemning the incident, BJP leaders met Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot on Thursday and submitted a formal memorandum, demanding the Governor’s immediate intervention. They urged the Governor to dismiss Priyank Kharge from the Cabinet and initiate disciplinary action against officials involved.

A BJP delegation led by Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly R. Ashoka, along with Chaluvadi Narayanaswamy, C.T. Ravi, Ashwath Narayan and others, met the Governor and expressed grave concern over what they called a breakdown of law and order in the state.

Speaking to the media, R. Ashoka accused Priyank Kharge of orchestrating the attack on Narayanaswamy. "After releasing a chargesheet against the Congress government, Narayanaswamy visited Kalaburagi for a programme. However, he was denied entry, and he was locked up for nearly five hours. He was verbally abused, his car was pelted with eggs, and Congress goons even threatened to kill him,” Ashoka alleged.

Ashoka further demanded that cases be registered against all those involved in the incident. “Congress goons detained him for five hours and openly threatened to eliminate him. Police failed to act, and he was insulted with vulgar language,” he said. “If Priyank Kharge found Narayanaswamy’s remarks offensive, he should have approached the court. Instead, the Congress has resorted to street hooliganism, and Priyank is clearly behind it,” he added.
