BCC discusses action against Tilakwadi Club and Vega Funmobile

The Belagavi City Corporation (BCC) council meeting witnessed heated exchanges as corporators raised allegations against BCC officials, particularly the law officer, for allegedly aiding the Tilakwadi Club, which is facing action for lease violations. Deputy Commissioner (Revenue) Reshma Talikoti informed the council that the club had breached lease terms by operating a bar, restaurant, and other commercial activities not permitted under the agreement. The Commissioner’s court cancelled the lease in May, and a legal caveat related to the case has been filed.

Talikoti explained that under the Karnataka Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorised Occupants) Act, eviction can be initiated only after serving three notices. The first notice period ended on June 13, with subsequent notices to follow. However, the club secured a court stay on the show-cause notice, delaying further action.

Corporators Hanumant Kongali and Ramesh Sontakki criticised officials for not filing a caveat before serving the show-cause notice, accusing them of allowing the club to obtain a stay with ease. The law officer, in response, said steps are being taken to vacate the stay in the coming court hearings.

In another significant matter, ruling BJP members demanded strict action against Vega Funmobile for allegedly evading property tax dues amounting to ₹7.3 crore. Talikoti confirmed that two notices had already been served — the first with a month’s deadline, and the second with a one-week deadline, ending June 18.

MLA Asif Sait suggested considering a one-time settlement, but officials clarified that such an option is no longer available under the current rules. The council is expected to continue discussions in the upcoming sessions to decide the course of action in both cases.
