Ambedkar-Kuvempu’s thoughts are good for life, says Prof. Meti Mallikarjuna
SHIVAMOGGA
Prof. Meti Mallikarjuna praised the philosophical insights of Ambedkar and Kuvempu, emphasizing their relevance for leading a happy, peaceful life free from unnecessary traditions and rituals. Speaking at the Mantra Magalya wedding ceremony of photojournalist Arun Navule and Vinimol in Kuppali, he highlighted how both thinkers shaped modern perspectives on legal, social, economic, cultural, and moral living.
Prof. Mallikarjuna explained that Ambedkar and Kuvempu offered valuable guidance on the paths individuals should take, the precautions needed, and the understanding necessary to live rationally. He described the Mantra Magalya ceremony as a reflection of rational living when one follows these enlightened principles.
He emphasized that marriage should be a union of minds, like milk and sugar blending inseparably. Both partners should clearly understand the purpose of their marriage, and this mutual clarity should be passed on to future generations like a sweet nectar.
The professor also critiqued the extravagant expenses often incurred in weddings due to parental pressure, noting that financial burdens and lavish rituals contradict the true aim of marriage — the happiness and contentment of the couple. Mantra Magalya, he said, helps overcome such contradictions by promoting intellectual courage and simplifying ceremonies without superstitions or excessive costs.
The parents of the couple—Manjunath, Tulsi-Manjula, and Harish—were present on stage during the event, supporting this progressive approach to marriage.
