District Superintendent of Police Yashoda Vantagodi announced that AI-based surveillance cameras will soon be installed along national highways in Haveri to detect traffic violations. These cameras will capture infractions such as riding without helmets and speeding, and violators will be fined and issued notices directly at their residences.

Speaking at a press conference, SP Vantagodi stressed the need for public cooperation to maintain law and order and said cameras would be used not just for traffic monitoring but also to deter crime. “In Davangere, we successfully installed many CCTV cameras with the cooperation of the public. We aim to replicate that model here in Haveri,” she said. Police stations across the district are being surveyed to assess existing camera infrastructure.

Vantagodi revealed that a proposal is being prepared to allocate Rs 1 crore from each MLA’s Rs 50 crore development grant for public safety measures, including camera installations. Local administrative bodies and gram panchayats may also contribute to this effort.

She added that police will inspect each station in the district and evaluate pending and registered cases. “It will take some time to understand the district fully, but we are committed to improving safety.”
