In a significant move aimed at maintaining communal harmony in the coastal region, 56 police personnel, including Head Constable Rashid of Bajpe Police Station, have been transferred within the Mangaluru Commissionerate limits. Head Constable Rashid had been indirectly accused by BJP leaders of aiding in the murder of Hindu activist Suhas Shetty.

The Home Department has taken serious note of incidents affecting communal harmony in the coastal belt and has already initiated several measures, including the formation of a special task force. Now, a major reshuffle is underway at the grassroots level of the police department. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Sudheer Kumar Reddy issued the order transferring 56 police personnel, and it is anticipated that hundreds more staff members might be transferred in the coming days.

The transfers primarily involve personnel who have been stationed in the same location for many years. Head Constable Rashid of Bajpe Police Station has been transferred to the Mangaluru Women's Police Station. BJP leaders had previously alleged that Head Constable Rashid colluded with Suhas Shetty's killers, an accusation that had fueled widespread public anger.

Following the murder of Suhas Shetty in Mangaluru, there was significant public outcry against the Congress government, with accusations that it had failed to curb communal violence. Demands were made for the replacement of District In-charge Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao and Home Minister Dr. G. Parameshwara.

In the wake of these developments, the Home Minister had visited Mangaluru and announced several crucial measures. Subsequently, he declared the formation of a special task force specifically to prevent communal violence in the coastal region.
