“Under the Sustainable Rural Drinking Water Supply JJM scheme, 32 villages in the state are providing 24x7 clean drinking water, out of which 13 villages in district are at the first place in the state by providing clean and safe water,” said World Bank Task Team Leader Mariyappa Kullappa.

He was speaking at a workshop organized on “Sustainable Rural Drinking Water Supply” on Friday.

This scheme is being implemented with the aim of providing sustainable and safe water to the public and workers 24 hours a day. With this, clean drinking water is being provided 24x7 with a view to avoiding water pollution, unnecessary wastage of water and other problems. He also informed that the water quality will be checked every 3-6 months, he said.

Deputy Commissioner GM Gangadharaswamy said that with the coordination of the officials, the work is going on smoothly and quickly without any problems in the district. Most of the diseases are spread through water. Therefore, clean and safe water is being supplied to them with a view to protecting their health, he said.

Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Suresh B. Itnal said that implementing the JJM scheme in all villages and declaring them as 24x7 water supply villages is not an achievement.

The workshop was attended by World Bank Task Team Leader Christopher Williams, Deputy Secretary to the Government of the Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department Jaffer Sharif Sutar, Rural Drinking Water and Sanitation Department engineers, Panchayat Development Officers, elected representatives, members of self-help groups and others.

The World Bank has provided about 3 thousand crores for this project. With the cooperation of the officials here, today 13 villages are being provided with water 24 hours a day, World Bank Task Team Leader Mariyappa Kullappa said.
