22 police trainees fall ill, admitted to hospital

22 trainees of Khanapura Police Training School have been admitted to the hospital due to deteriorating health. It is suspected that they may have consumed food poisoning.

Twenty-two trainees from various districts of the state who had arrived at the Karnataka State Police Training School in Khanapura to undergo a 9-month basic training fell ill after consuming food that was contaminated with poison. They were admitted to Khanapura Taluk Hospital on Monday morning after experiencing vomiting, fever and fatigue and are undergoing treatment.

The training school kitchen was closed on Sunday evening. The trainees went to different hotels in Khanapur, had dinner and returned to the training school. Later, 22 people fell ill and were admitted to the hospital on Monday morning after experiencing health problems throughout the night.

A complaint has been registered at the Khanapura police station in this regard, and an investigation has been conducted into the food consumed by the trainees on Sunday night. The police said that they will identify those who served the poisoned food and take action against the culprits.

In this regard, the hospital's Chief Medical Officer Dr. Narayana Vaddin informed that the trainees of the training school who were admitted to the hospital on Monday morning are being admitted as inpatients and are receiving treatment. All of them are out of danger, he said.

District Superintendent of Police Dr Bhimashankar Guleda visited and inspected the facility. He inquired about the health of the trainees undergoing treatment.  

Former MLA, AICC Secretary Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, along with her brother visited the hospital. Senior Police officers, doctors, Music Director Gurukiran were present.
