14 sheep belonging to wandering shepherds Hanumanthappa Devikeri and Lakshmi Yankappa Devikeri died in a lightning strike at around 8 pm on Wednesday night due to heavy rains in Sharadahalli village of Shahapur taluk of the district, leaving the shepherds in a state of dismay. During the summer, shepherds move from one area to another grazing their sheep. In this way, sheep and shepherds are repeatedly facing hardship due to rain.

Shantagouda Naganatagi, State Director of the Karnataka State Sheep and Goat Breeders' Federation, visited the spot and consoled the shepherds. Speaking on the occasion, he said that shepherds and sheep are being killed in lightning strikes during the rainy season and the government should take action to provide permanent relief to the wandering shepherds. Karnataka Sheep Development Corporation will provide Rs. 5000 per sheep under the Anugraha scheme. Minister Sharanabasappa Gowda Darshanapura was informed about the facilities provided by the government during natural disasters, and the minister informed the tehsildar that the facilities provided by the government will be provided to the sheep that died during natural disasters.

On this occasion, Medical Officer Dr Ambareesh, Village Administrative Officer Santhosh visited the place and inspected it.

Former Taluk Panchayat members Sharabanna Rastapura, Sopanna Surapura Naganatagi, Siddappa Dastri, Yallappa Doddamani Sharadalli, Sharanabasava Yadav Naganatagi, Thirlappa Kuri Naganatagi and others were present. A case has been registered at the local police station.
