Zverev, Musetti, Rune win opening matches

Alexander Zverev, Lorenzo Musetti, and Holger Rune all won their opening matches at the National Bank Open on Tuesday. This is Zverev’s first match since his early Wimbledon exit. He beat Adam Walton 7-6, 6-4 after a long 52-shot rally helped him win the first set.
Zverev, ranked No. 3 in the world and seeded No. 1 in this tournament, said he's working to regain confidence after recent struggles. He won this tournament in 2017.
Third seed Musetti defeated Australian James Duckworth 7-5, 6-1 in a smooth performance. Fifth seed Rune also advanced, beating Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard 7-6, 6-3 in sunny conditions.
All seeded players had byes into the second round. Top names like Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Jack Draper, and Novak Djokovic withdrew before the tournament began.
Other winners included Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev, Karen Khachanov, Francisco Cerundolo, and defending champion Alexei Popyrin. Reilly Opelka scored an upset, knocking out 16th seed Tomas Machac in three sets. The action continues this week in Toronto.
