The Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi hosted a vibrant Fit India Sundays on Cycle event with 750 participants, including athletes, teachers, and fitness enthusiasts. The event, aimed at promoting physical fitness, was led by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya. Among the notable participants were wrestling champions Ravi Dahiya, a Tokyo Olympics silver medalist, and Deepak Punia, a Commonwealth Games gold medalist. They were joined by other national figures, including Rohtash Chaudhary, the Guinness World Record holder, and mountaineer Narender Kumar, who recently conquered Mount Annapurna in a record 12 days. This week's theme was Cycling with Teachers, with educators from various institutions across the city joining the ride. Mandaviya encouraged teachers to inspire students by cycling, linking it to the national goal of reducing obesity and enhancing physical fitness. He stressed the importance of transitioning from digital to physical activity in the digital age, in line with the Prime Minister's vision of a Fit India. The event was organized in collaboration with the Cycling Federation of India, MY Bharat, and various educational partners. Dahiya and Punia urged everyone to incorporate cycling into daily routines for better health and fitness. Since its launch in December 2024, the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative has seen massive participation, with over 2.5 lakh people joining from over 5000 locations across India.
