World Boxing forms interim committee for BFI
Lausanne
World Boxing has set up an interim committee to manage the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) after concerns were raised about the national body’s governance. The committee, led by BFI President Ajay Singh, includes vice president Narender Kumar Nirwan, executive director Arun Malik, Olympian L. Sarita Devi, and a nominee from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA). Fairuz, president of the Singapore Boxing Association, will represent World Boxing as an observer.
The committee’s tasks include overseeing day-to-day operations, organizing domestic competitions like the National Championships, selecting teams for international events, managing finances, and ensuring transparency. Additionally, it will work to resolve legal and registration issues with Indian boxing, revise the BFI Constitution, and ensure India is ready to host the World Boxing Finals and Congress.
The committee will operate for up to 90 days, with its first report due within 30 days. World Boxing aims to restore stability and ensure fair elections for the BFI’s future leadership.
