Indian hockey player Deepika has made the country proud by becoming the first Indian ever to win the famous Poligras Magic Skill Award. This award is given for the most creative and skilful moment in the FIH Hockey Pro League. Deepika won it after fans from all over the world voted for her amazing solo goal against the Netherlands during the 2024-25 season in Bhubaneswar.

The 21-year-old forward showed great skill in the 35th minute of the match when India was losing 0-2. She ran down the left side, dribbled past defenders, lifted the ball over a stick, and beat the goalkeeper to score. This goal helped India tie the match 2-2, and they later won in a shootout against the world’s top team.

Deepika felt happy and proud after winning. She said, "I am truly honoured. Scoring that goal against the Netherlands was special, and getting this award means a lot to me. I thank my teammates, coaches, family, and friends for always supporting me. This award belongs to Indian hockey, and we will keep moving forward together."

Deepika’s goal was chosen among three women’s entries, including Spain’s Patricia Alvarez and Australia’s team. Fans picked the winner through an online vote, and Deepika received the most votes.

Meanwhile, the men’s award went to Belgium’s Victor Wegnez for his smart play that led to a team goal against Spain.

This win is a big moment for Indian hockey and a proud achievement for Deepika and the country.
