Swiatek and Anisimova reach last 16 round in Montreal
Montreal
World No. 1 Iga Swiatek continued her winning streak at the Canadian Open with a strong 6-2, 6-2 victory over Germany's Eva Lys. With this win, she advanced to the tournament’s fourth round for the first time since 2022. Swiatek has now won nine matches in a row and 12 of her last 13, showing some of her best form this season.
Swiatek has been dominant in WTA 1000 tournaments, winning 18 of her last 19 Round of 16 matches. Her only loss came against Ekaterina Alexandrova in Miami last year. Up next, she will face 16th seed Clara Tauson, whom she has defeated in both their earlier matches.
In another impressive performance, Amanda Anisimova beat Emma Raducanu 6-2, 6-1 in straight sets during the night session. Anisimova had never defeated Raducanu before, but she began strongly, breaking her serve early and quickly building a lead. She took the first set 6-2 and dominated the second set with powerful groundstrokes, winning five straight games before Raducanu could hold her serve.
This win marks Anisimova's 29th straight match win after taking the first set. Her last loss in such a position was in January at the Auckland tournament.
Anisimova will now face 10th seed Elina Svitolina, who easily beat Anna Kalinskaya 6-1, 6-1. Their upcoming match will determine who moves on to the quarterfinals in Montreal.
Both Swiatek and Anisimova are looking strong as the tournament enters its later stages, with top seeds aiming for the title.
