Son Heung-Min eyes LAFC move after Spurs exit
New Delhi
Tottenham Hotspur icon Son Heung-Min has announced his decision to leave the club after a decade, with reports suggesting he is keen to join Major League Soccer side Los Angeles FC.
The 33-year-old will lead Spurs one final time in a farewell match against Newcastle United at the Seoul World Cup Stadium this Sunday. Despite interest from Saudi Pro League clubs, Son prefers LAFC, where his former teammates Hugo Lloris and Gareth Bale have also played.
Son explained his decision at a press conference in Seoul: “It was the hardest decision of my career. I need a new environment to push myself. I came to north London as a kid, I leave as a proud man.”
Commercial prospects in the U.S. also appeal to Son, especially with Los Angeles home to the largest Korean population outside Asia, offering a strong community and market support.
Since joining Spurs in 2015, Son has scored 173 goals, placing him fifth on the club’s all-time list. He has made 454 appearances and recently lifted the UEFA Europa League trophy in May. With his next chapter likely in MLS, Son’s legacy as a Spurs legend remains firmly intact.
