Top Indian shooter Elavenil Valarivan has called the new Shooting League of India (SLI) a game-changer for the sport. The SLI, launched by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI), is set to take place from November 20 to December 2 this year.

Elavenil, fresh off a bronze medal at the ISSF World Cup in Munich, said she was thrilled about the league. “It’s something new for our sport and very exciting. I’m sure every athlete is looking forward to it,” she said.

The SLI will feature six to eight teams divided into two pools. The mixed-team events will include 10m and 25m pistol, 10m rifle, 50m three-position rifle, and shotgun trap and skeet. Players will be sorted into four categories: Elite Champions, World Elite, National Champions, and Junior & Youth Champions.

Elavenil believes the competition level will be intense and helpful. “It will prepare us better for global events,” she said. She also looks forward to the involvement of foreign players. “Being on one team with athletes from around the world will help everyone learn and grow,” she added.

She hopes SLI brings more public attention to shooting. “When people see the sport up close in a league format, they’ll understand it better. It will inspire more young people to take it up,” said the two-time Olympian.

With high hopes, Elavenil believes SLI can truly transform the future of Indian shooting.
