Shrivalli Bhamidipaty, ranked 304th in WTA singles, made a memorable debut for India at the Billie Jean King Cup. She secured a dominant 6-1, 6-1 win over New Zealand’s Aishi Das, giving India a perfect start in the Asia-Oceania Group 1 tournament.
The 23-year-old from Hyderabad shared her emotional experience, saying, “It was really emotional playing my debut match for the country. I was a little emotional on court, but the team and crowd’s support helped me focus and perform.”
Reflecting on her post-match emotions, she added, “Hugging my teammates after the win felt surreal. We’ve bonded so much over the past week, and the atmosphere has been fantastic.”
Shrivalli praised the teamwork, with experienced players like Prarthana Thombare and Ankita Raina guiding the younger players. She also noted that the fast and bouncy courts, along with the hot conditions, worked in India’s favor.
