New Delhi: Indian forward Selvam Karthi is thrilled to return to the national men’s hockey camp ahead of the FIH Hockey Pro League 2024–25 European leg. The 23-year-old is determined to prove himself and secure a spot in the final squad to face top teams like the Netherlands, Belgium, Australia, and Argentina.

Karthi, who last played during the 2023 Asian Champions Trophy, said, “I’ve worked hard on my own. Now, I want to help the team in Europe by scoring goals and playing well.”

He shared how the coaching staff encouraged him to focus on fitness and goal-finishing skills. “Their guidance motivates me to keep improving,” said Karthi, who hails from Tamil Nadu.

Speaking about the upcoming challenges, Karthi acknowledged the strength of the opposition. “The Netherlands are Olympic champions, and all teams play fast hockey. But we are confident. We just need to play smart and stick to our strengths,” he added.

Training has intensified, and Karthi is doing extra sessions to be match-ready. Having toured Europe before, he feels prepared to make an impact.

His goal is clear: rejoin the playing squad, help India win, and become a key forward in major future tournaments.
