India’s top men’s doubles pair, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, reached the quarterfinals of the China Open on Thursday. The World No. 12 duo defeated Indonesia’s Leo Rolly Carnando and Bagas Maulana 21-19, 21-19 in a close straight-games win. The China Open is part of the BWF Super 1000 series, one of the top-tier badminton tournaments.

Their victory kept India’s hopes alive after HS Prannoy exited in men’s singles following a tough loss to World No. 6 Chou Tien Chen of Chinese Taipei.

Chirag said the first game was tight, with both teams trading points. "It was back and forth. At 16-all, we got 3-4 points in a row, which helped us close the first game," he said. However, he admitted they could have been calmer and more aggressive in the second game.

Satwik echoed that view, saying they became passive after winning the first game. "We lost a bit of intensity, made more mistakes and let them come back," he said. Still, he praised their teamwork. "Even when we were down, we stuck together and believed a few good services could turn it around."

Chirag also acknowledged the strong play from the Indonesian pair in the second game. "Their service receiving was good, but we held on and managed to win."

The Indian pair now heads into the quarterfinals with growing confidence and aim to continue their strong performance as they chase the title. Their teamwork and focus will be key in the upcoming rounds.
